How Long Horizons Expand Choice and Intelligence

How far do we see? How deeply grows our consciousness? Our growth is equated with our vision sphere. 

I have been searching for a few answers for more than 30 years. Why cannot we create what our ancestors, pioneers and sages created? Our life is so largely based on those creations. Are we creating for our generations to come? What are we missing? This question always lingered inside of me and I started getting a few answers, like puzzle pieces over the period of time. 

One of the reasons that unfolded is we have narrowed down our vision. Our sphere of vision and impact has been so tremendously shrinked. Our own self, our family and near and dear ones, our workspace, this is the area of our vision. That too, may be to impact our next generation or two. 

We are only focusing on this lifetime. 

Our work, our relationships and our impact are only based on this lifetime. We have lost the art of seeing beyond. 

What if I could create a legacy that would go on for centuries or millennia? What kind of legacy could I bring to this world? How deeply would it impact people’s and planet’s life? What change would it bring? We have stopped asking such questions to ourselves. Wherein we are able and resourceful to build even beyond this. 

Many people ask, why do we need to do this? Isn’t living for self and loved ones enough? Who knows beyond lifetime? 

Firstly, the life we are currently living is the result of lifetime efforts of many and more. The fruits we are enjoying currently, cultures and systems and infrastructure and innovations are efforts of our ancestors in giving us better life conditions. It is their personal sacrifices and dedication that our life is smooth and better. Not far, we have seen our parents have worked so hard to give us a better life by sacrificing their own comforts and pleasures. 

History proves this. Not far but 500 years ago, life was so hard. Resources and infrastructure were so meagre. The privileges we have are someone else’s vision and someone’s life work. Aren’t we responsible to do the same for our current and future lives?

Secondly, and most importantly, we aren’t building or contributing for others. We are and we have to do this for our own self cause this is the way of our growth, our expansion and our rewards. Material rewards are so minimal if you know the inner rewards. When we understand, exactly what are we craving for? What are we chasing? What is it that we seek at the end of the day? Then beyond material success it is love, peace, fulfillment and growth. No growth sustains on personal motives. Personal motives shrunk our lives to animalistic living. Basic survival and reproduction, what other species do too. Being human we are meant for much beyond and if this lifetime beyond vision is not open, we are to face struggles, stress, chaos and dissatisfaction, how much we succeed. 

Be with yourself daily for a while. Listen to your inner voice. Go deeper and deeper. Let your inner self unfold your life’s purpose and vision.
